subject的詞義和用法

　　subject的詞義理解與用法說(shuō)明

　　1. 表示“主題”“話題”“問(wèn)題”“題目”等多種意思，閱讀時(shí)應(yīng)結(jié)合句子語(yǔ)境理解。如：

　　The subject is under discussion. 這個(gè)問(wèn)題正在討論。

　　Half of what he said was off the subject. 他一半的話都偏離了主題。

　　Not enough is known about the subject. 對(duì)這問(wèn)題了解得還不夠。

　　2. 表示“學(xué)科”“科目”，為可數(shù)名詞。如：

　　History is my favourite subject at school. 歷史是我在學(xué)校學(xué)得最好的學(xué)科。

　　All these are required subjects. 所有這些都是必修課。

　　注意英語(yǔ)中表示學(xué)科的名詞(maths, English, Chinese, Japanese, German, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography等)的用法(僅限于表示“學(xué)科”時(shí)的用法)：

　　(1) 其中表示“語(yǔ)言”的English, Chinese, Japanese等的第一個(gè)字母必須大寫(xiě)，其余的可以大寫(xiě)第一個(gè)字母，也可以不大寫(xiě)第一個(gè)字母。均為不可數(shù)名詞。如：

　　She got 80 marks out of 100 for geography. 她的地理得了80分。

　　Chemistry was her favourite subject at school. 她上學(xué)時(shí)最喜歡化學(xué)。

　　(2) 在通常情況下，不與物主代詞連用。如：

　　誰(shuí)教你們的英語(yǔ)(數(shù)學(xué)、語(yǔ)文、物理、化學(xué)、歷史)?

　　誤：Who teaches your English (maths, Chinese, physics, chemistry, history)?

　　正：Who teaches you English (maths, Chinese, physics, chemistry, history)?

　　但是，如果表示某人對(duì)某學(xué)科的掌握水平，則可與物主代詞連用。如：

　　My English (maths, Chinese, physics, chemistry, history) is poor. 我的英語(yǔ)(數(shù)學(xué)、語(yǔ)文、物理、化學(xué)、歷史)學(xué)得不好。

　　(3) 表示學(xué)習(xí)某一學(xué)科，通常用動(dòng)詞do和study。如：

　　She did maths, physics and chemistry at school. 她上學(xué)時(shí)學(xué)過(guò)數(shù)學(xué)、物理和數(shù)學(xué)。

　　有時(shí)見(jiàn)到用動(dòng)詞read，但相當(dāng)正式，而且只用于與大學(xué)的學(xué)科名稱(chēng)連用。如：

　　She was educated privately and at Pembroke College, where she read classics. 她授受私人教育，又在彭布羅克學(xué)院攻讀古典文學(xué)。

　　表示選修某一學(xué)科，通常用動(dòng)詞take。如：

　　Half the students take geography at A level. 有一半學(xué)生選上高級(jí)程度的地理課。

　　(4) 表示教授某一學(xué)科，除可用動(dòng)詞teach外，還可用lecture in。如：

　　For ten years she lectured in law. 她講授過(guò)10年報(bào)法律課。

　　但是，如果是具體講授某內(nèi)容，則用lecture on。如：

　　I was asked to lecture on Irish folklore. 我被邀請(qǐng)做—個(gè)關(guān)于愛(ài)爾蘭民歌的報(bào)告。
