1. I feel it in my bones. 我非常確定。
I feel it in my bones.是「我非常確定」的意思。
A: How do you know you're going to win?
你怎么知道你會贏?
B: I feel it in my bones.
我就是確定。
2. squeak by... 勉強通過……
squeak by的原意是「僥幸通過」,用在形容考試,表示雖然通過考試,但分數(shù)也不高。
例如:某科你只拿到六十分,就可以說squeak by with asixty.
A: I wonder if I got an A on the exam.
我在想,不知道我這科考試能不能得A。
B: I'm just hoping I squeaked by with a C.
我只希望我能拿個C低空飛過就行了。
3. wipe someone out 讓某人一蹶不振
wipe out 原意是「銷毀,徹底毀滅」,不過最常見的用法是指「讓某人散盡錢財、一蹶不振
如:The bad economics wiped him out.經(jīng)濟不景氣讓他破產(chǎn)了。
A: How are your stocks doing?
你的股票最近如何?
B: Not good. I got wiped out in the crash last year.
不好。我在去年不景氣時破產(chǎn)了。
