There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people, and to develop their own interests in many subjects.Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education,as they are responsible for what they do in life. Some students do badly in a traditional classroom. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot,it is a good idea to be in an open classroom.

Today,F(xiàn)ebruary twentyninth, is leap day. This date only appears on the calendar once every four years. But why?

Everyone knows the Earth takes three hundred sixtyfive days to travel around the sun.Well, that is not exactly correct. The Earth really takes three hundred sixtyfive days, five hours, fortyeight minutes and fortysix seconds to complete its orbit around the sun.

The problem for people developing calendars (日歷) was what to do with the extra(額外的) five hours, fortyeight minutes and fortysix seconds.

People needed calendars to help them know when to plant crops and when to celebrate religious holidays. The ancient Greeks and Chinese had a solution(解決辦法).They produced calendars that included extra months every nineteen years.

The ancient Romans had a different solution. In the year fortysix, the Roman ruler Julius Caesar made a new calendar. The Julian calendar included an extra day every four years. But there was a problem. The Julian year was just over eleven minutes longer than the cycle(循環(huán)) of the seasons. In fifteen eightytwo, Pope Gregory the Thirteenth established a new calendar to keep a better recorder of the days.Pole Gregory was the religious leader of most of Europe. He decided that years that could be divided by four would add a day. However, years that ended in two zeros and that could not be evenly(均勻地) divided by four hundred would not be leap years. For example, the years seventeen hundred, eighteen hundred and nineteen hundred were not leap years. But the years sixteen hundred and two thousand were leap years.

So leap years are years with three hundred sixtysix days, instead of the usual three hundred sixtyfive. This extra day is added to the calendar on February twentyninth, sometimes known as leap day.People born on leap day may be called “leaplings”. They usually celebrate their birthday on February twentyeight or March first.

(2013•師大附中高一上期中)Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet, a new study shows. It is not clear, researchers say, whether television itself is the reason, but it is possible that things like snacking in front of the TV or seeing ads for junk food influence young people's diets.

The study included nearly 1,400 high school students. It showed that those who watched TV for five hours or more every day had less healthy diets than other students five years later. As a group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, but ate more fast food, snack products and fried foods.

“We're not able to tell why,” lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson said. “But we have some speculation(推測).” People who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may have more snacks. It may influence their longterm diet quality. It's also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks make teenagers eat more of those foods. TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.

The researchers found a clear relationship between TV time during high school and diet quality of the young. The heaviest TV viewers ate the most junk food five years later, and those who'd watched fewer than two hours every day had the most fruits and vegetables.

According to BarrAnderson, the findings support experts' advice that children should watch no more than two hours of television every day. “Parents should cut the TV time.” BarrAnderson said. She advised that parents set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.

  2.B 考查be worth doing。be worth doing意為“值得……

prefer to do A rather than do B意為“寧愿做A也不愿意做B”。

  4.A 這是一個復(fù)雜的特殊疑問句,句中do you think為插入語,結(jié)構(gòu)為“特殊疑問詞+do you think/believe...+句子的其他部分(陳述語序)?”。

強(qiáng)調(diào)句的基本結(jié)構(gòu)為:It is/was+被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分+that從句。 not...until...

in order that和so that后跟從句,且so that引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句時不能置于句首。so as to和in order to后跟不定式,但是so as to不可置于句首,故選D項。

make up of“由……構(gòu)成”;make good use/the most/the best of“充分利用”,故B項正確。

of my own“自己的”;on my own“單獨地,獨自地”。

  10.B do you think作插入語成分出現(xiàn)在句中,故排除C、D兩項;把do you think從句中去掉后,其余部分應(yīng)為自然語序,故排除A項。

根據(jù)主語是none of them可知,用they作反意疑問部分的主語,再根據(jù)謂語動詞由could understand構(gòu)成可知,A項正確。

used to do sth.“過去常常做某事”,故第一空選用play。be used to do sth.意為“被用來做某事”,不合題意,因此只能用be used to doing sth.,意為“習(xí)慣于做某事”。

so did I表示前者的情況同樣適用于后者;so I did表示陳述或肯定前文的內(nèi)容,故本題B項正確。

句中的先行詞是two novels,而且后面是一個非限制性定語從句,因此用both of which引導(dǎo)。That不能引導(dǎo)非限制性定語從句,也不能跟在介詞后面;如果選them,則逗號后面需要有并列連詞and或者是獨立主格結(jié)構(gòu),即both of them made into...。

concentrate on“集中注意力于”;while表示“當(dāng)……

  19.A see表示“看”的結(jié)果,watch和look都表示“看”的動作。

  28.where 29.who/that 30.Though/Although 31.out 32.in 33.also 34.because/as 35.a

文章的開頭介紹了open education可以讓學(xué)生發(fā)展自己的學(xué)科興趣,學(xué)會對自己的教育負(fù)責(zé),“This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people, and to develop their own interests in many subjects.”

根據(jù)第一段最后“Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot,it is a good idea to be in an open classroom.”

根據(jù)第二段開頭“But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school.”

該題目可以用排除法來選擇,文章的第二段最后部分講解地很明白“some traditional teachers do not like it.Many teachers do not believe in open education.Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their schools.”A、B、C三項都提到了,故該題應(yīng)選擇D項。

根據(jù)第四段中的“My wife and I didn't know how we'd pay for the rent that month. Then your movie came to our town and offered jobs for us.”

根據(jù)最后一段的“A few days later,in the church my new friend gave a blessing over my new granddaughter.”

根據(jù)首段末句中的“We finished lunch and then decided to rent a boat”可知,作者他們是吃完午飯,然后決定去劃船的,因此時間是在下午。

根據(jù)第二段中的“but as soon as we changed it,the oarlock broke”可知,他們的槳架斷了,致使他們無法劃船,這正是他們無法返回的原因。

根據(jù)第三段首句中的“After seeing the change of weather,we shouldn't have continued to row”可知,在看到變天后,他們不應(yīng)該再繼續(xù)劃船,其中后半個分句是虛擬語氣,“should(not)+have+done”表示“本來(不)應(yīng)該做某事”,因此作者認(rèn)為當(dāng)時不應(yīng)該繼續(xù)劃船。

根據(jù)第三段的“the boat began to shake like a cradle”可知,他嘔吐的原因是“船搖晃得太厲害了”。

  51.Leap Day/ An Extra Day 52.A calendar

  53.Problem 54.Solutions 55.People 56.extra months 57.Julius Caesar 58.every four years

  59.by four 60.was added

  Dear_editor,

I'm writing to tell you about the discussion we held yesterday afternoon about health and appearance.

Opinions are divided on the topic. Those for health think that we should take activities or have food on the basic of health, and that good health is the resource of study and work. They insist that the people who own good health can be themselves easily but the people who only own beautiful appearance can't make great contributions to society, on the contrary this kind of people will be a burden of society.

But the supporters of beautiful appearance believe that only healthy body will bring nothing good to us and beautiful appearance will surely help us to be successful in study and work. They are fond of the idea that if we are good looking, we can be ourselves more easily.

As far as I'm concerned,I think there is no need to pay too much attention to our appearance as long as we are healthy.Health is the greatest wealth.

  Yours_sincerely,
