I should have been born with my fingers permanently glued to a keyboard. Since I was five , I’ve known that I want to be a professional writer: a journalist, a novelist, a modern-day Shakespeare, maybe. In my freshman year I tried to figure out what A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar were about. Macbeth in my sophomore year was much easier to understand.

However, I’m practically addicted to books, whether I’m reading or writing them. I can’t go a single day without writing something. If I do. I feel pains in my fingers that won t go away until I pick up a pen and just let my thoughts out I can be inspired by anything: an expression, a song, a movie. Once I get inspired, it’s like the wheels turning faster and faster as I think out one possible story after another.

My family is so widespread that whenever I meet with a cousin or an aunt I only vague y remember. I tell him or her Tm a writer because I know it will distinguish me from all the other “kids” in the family and make me memorable. One aunt hugged me and told me, “Just don’t forget about the rest of us when you become the next J. K. Rowling.” Smiling, I replied, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”

Maybe I just want to leave my name on the world since I can’t sing to create a great work of art—although I am a pretty good actor, but acting doesn’t seem like the right path for me— I’ve chosen writing to make a name for myself.

  25. When the author was a child, he .

  A. set writing as his life goal B. was famous for his writing

  C. shared his stories with others D. considered himself a great writer

  26. According to the text, the author likes writing probably because .

  A. he expects to become wealthier

  B. he plans to make full use of his time

  C. he wants to become well-known

  D. he hopes to set an example to his peers

  27. What can be the best title for the text?

  A. Never give up your dream B. A good hobby, a good friend

C Just like writing from now on D. A modern-day Shakespeare, maybe

  C

The seal lying on top of the ice doesn’t stand a chance. Knocked into the sea, the seal becomes a meal for one of the oceans top hunters—the huge orca, or killer whale.

Orcas hunt almost everything from fish to seals, sea lions, penguins, sharks, and even other kinds of whales. Depending on the season and where they are, their diet varies-some orcas eat more fishes than seals and penguins. But wherever they are in any of the world’s oceans, average-sized orcas may eat about 500 pounds of food a day. Orcas have many hunting techniques, and striking seals off ice is just one of them.

Often referred to as wolves of the sea, orcas live and hunt together in family groups, much like a pack of wolves. Groups of orcas work together to drive fish into a compact area so that they’re easier to eat. They will also hit their tails onto the water’s surface, causing a wave to wash penguins or sea lions into the water.

Orcas’ teeth, numbering about 45 and each measuring about 3 inches long, are shaped for tearing prey (獵物) Orcas do not chew their food. They can swallow small seals and sea lions whole. The prey slides down the orcas’ throats! The color pattern of orcas may help them at-tack their prey. Their backs are black but their stomachs are white. Animals looking down on an orca from above, such as a seal on ice, might not see it because the whale’s dark back blends with the water below.

On the other hand, the whale’s white underside combines with the light streaming down into the sea from the surface, making it hard to spot from below. With orcas camouflaged so well ,those prey fish, penguins, or seals are likely to miss the danger heading their way, as the killer whale once again proves it is the oceans’ superbly designed hunter.

  28. According to the text, we know orcas are .

  A. good at using their teeth

  B. the most cruel hunters in the world

  C. big whales who don’t hunt other whales

  D. skillful hunters who like hunting many creatures

  30. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?

  C. The features of what orcas look like. D. The ways of how orcas hunt animals.

  31. What does the underlined word “blends” in Paragruph 4 mean?

  A. Meets. B. Mixes. C. Struggles. D. Equips.

  D

Ever since we were young, we’ve been asked to compete, to make sure that we’re the best at everything, to ensure that we ore always at the top. For most of us, it starts when we’re young. We were not taught how to come in second,or to be happy that someone else is better than you.

Normally when we end up not winning something or coming in second, we often find fault with the person who is “better” than us. Even if they do truly deserve to win, we would make it a point to find as many faults and reasons as to why that person should hove lost to us instead. I’m sure you’d agree that sometimes we just have to accept that there’s someone better than us at some things.

But even now, some of you would probably be stuck at the phrase “to be happy that someone else is better than you”. It might not make sense to you at all. How could you be happy when you didn’t win? Sure, they might be better than you, but why would you be happy about it?

This is the problem with competition. It shows how self-centered we are. It shows us that in the end we only want ourselves to win and no one else. Many people would deny it, but let’s be real, how many of us can truly put our hands to our hearts and say that we are truly happy that the person who was “better than us” ended up winning instead of ourselves?

  32. According to the text, people are taught to learn to compete .

  A. at a young B. when they find their own faults

  C. after getting success D. when they come in second

  33. Why do we often pick out the other people’s faults when they win?

  A. To regret for what we have lost.

  B. To deny they arc better than us.

  C. To show they truly deserve to win.

  D. To prove they are really the best.

  34. What’s the usual attitude towards the fact that someone else is better than us?

  A. Happy. B. Satisfied. C. Unacceptable. D. Indifferent.

  35. According to the text, in competition people always .

  A. keep self-centered B. hope to be selfless

  C. accept their own faults D. face the unfair results

  Many people complain about not having enough time to exercise. I think they are lying to themselves. The real problem is that they hate exercising. 36 Going to the gym seemed dull and painful compared to most other ways I could spend my time. But by not giving up and looking for a way I could enjoy working out, I changed this pattern. Here are some tips to make exercise something you actually want to do;

37 Remove the thinking element. If you can make exercise a habit, then it becomes that much easier to go.

Get a partner. 38 Pick someone who cares about their health. Not only can you social-ize with someone while you’re there, but you’ll have a backup in case your motivation alone isn’t enough to drag yourself out there.

Experiment. Don’t stick with the same routine. 39 There are many different exercise routines you can follow or activities to try. If you don’t like lifting weights, you can try running or dancing.

Make time. You can’t say you don't have time to exercise. Exercise improves your energy levels and mood which makes you more productive than any time lout. 40 Get up a bit earlier and go in the morning. Or schedule it right after work before you settle down for the day. Once you make lime and make it a habit, you'll actually want to exercise instead of just feeling you should.

  A. Make it a habit.

  B. Record improvements

  C. I used to hate exercising too.

  D. Mix it up and try different activities.

  E. Here are two bad ways to start exercising.

  F. Get someone else to go to the gym with you.

  G. Find your forty minutes somewhere in the day and make it a rule.

I’m sorry to hear that your mother caught a cold last week. As a son, it’s normal to worry about your mother when she is ill. However, it was an unwise action that you were absent from class just because of the worry.

Now, I can t wait to know what’s going on with your mother. Has she recovered from the illness? In addition, please tell me if you have gone to school. You may have some questions about the lessons you missed. I hope you can deal with them well.

Finally, I have some suggestions to share with you. Firstly, do your own things well even though there is something that disturbs you. As you know, studying well is the best medicine for your mother. Secondly, look after your mother if you have your homework finished.
