　　副詞later, later on

　　1)late晚，遲到。比如：

　　I found I was five minutes late for the meeting.

　　我發(fā)現(xiàn)我開會遲到了5分鐘。

　　Tony came home late from work.

　　托尼下班回家晚了。

　　2)“時間段+later”表示“從過去某一點時間往后推算的一段時間后”。比如：

　　He hung the telephone, but a few minutes later she called again.

　　他掛上了電話，但幾分鐘后她又打回來了。

　　I went toXi’an on business in 1990, and two years later I visited the old city again.

　　我1990年去西安出差，兩年后我又訪問了這個古城。

　　(the old city指Xi’an,英語中的同意替換,避免重復)

　　3)later (on)后來，以后 可以用于過去或者將來。比如：

　　We listened to his talk and had a discussion later (on).

　　我們聽了他的報告，后來又進行了討論。

　　We shall build another underground railway later (on).

　　以后我們將再建一條地鐵。
