  很多人都知道薯?xiàng)l的英文是“Chips”,美國(guó)人稱之為“French Fries”,直譯過(guò)來(lái)就是“法國(guó)油炸馬鈴薯”,那為什么叫薯?xiàng)l為“法國(guó)油炸馬鈴薯”,薯?xiàng)l和法國(guó)有何淵源呢?

  In fact, that is not their real name anyway. The popular food item was once called "Frenched Fries" since the potatoes were frenched -- meaning to be cut into large rectangular strips or spears. Frenched cuts are larger cuts than julienned cuts, otherwise they are pretty similar.

  Americans tend to slur or reduce the sound at the end of some words. Hence Frenched Fries become French Fries, much like Iced Tea became Ice Tea.

  還比如,有觀點(diǎn)說(shuō)是因?yàn)樵诘谝淮问澜绱髴?zhàn)的時(shí)候,美國(guó)士兵在比利時(shí)吃到了這種薯?xiàng)l,覺(jué)得特別美味,而當(dāng)時(shí)在比利時(shí)軍隊(duì)中的通用語(yǔ)言是法語(yǔ),他們就以為是“法國(guó)的薯?xiàng)l”了,便想當(dāng)然的稱其為“French Fries”。

  雖然“French Fries”的確切來(lái)源不得而知,但可以確定的,“French Fries”是真的跟法國(guó)沒(méi)有半點(diǎn)關(guān)系。
