Some time ago ,I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg. I didn’t think therewould be any difficulty in getting it mended ,as there are a whole lot of antique(古董)shops near my home. So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception(接待). I was quite wrong. The man wouldn't even look at my chair. The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and the fourth - so I decided that my approach(方法) must be wrong. I went into the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper,“ Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said,“ Yes, not a bad chair. How much do you want for it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. “OK, ”he said, “I’ll give you twenty pounds. ”“It ‘s got a slightly broken leg,” I said. “Yes, I saw that, it's nothing.”
Everything was going according to plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done. ”“I'll buy it,” I said.
“What do you mean? You’ve just sold it to me,”he said. “Yes, I know but I’ve changed my mind. I'm sorry, I'll give you twenty -seven pounds for it. ”“ Your must be crazy, ”he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair. ”“ You’re right, ”I said. “And what would you have done if I had walked in and said,’Would you mend this chair for meI wouldn't have agreed to do it,” he said. “We don’t do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. I have never taken cooking classes. I learned cooking from my mother because she was really interested in teaching me how to cook. The main reason for this was because when my mother got married, she didn't know how to cook anything, not even an egg. My grandmother never allowed her to stay in the kitchen when she was cooking.
My mother did not start to cook until she was 25 years old. In the beginning, it was very hard for her. Therefore, she had to take cooking classes to prepare our meals. After having that experience, she decided to teach me how to cook because she didn't want me to have the same experience.
I remember when I was seven years old, and my mother was cooking, I was with her in the kitchen enjoying cooking. I always helped her. Sometimes we prepared meals that my mother already knew how to make, and sometimes we prepared them from recipes. Nowadays, I am really thankful for that experience because I don't need help to cook a meal. I can cook for me alone or for a group of people; it doesn't matter.
I will do the same with my children because I don't want them to have the same experience as my mother. If one day I am not with them, I want to be sure that they can carry on their lives without me.

Learn another language isn't easy, but most people can learn a second language well if they're willing to put in the necessary time. Here are sane practical suggestions for studying effectively, overcoming anxiety, and learning the grammar and skills necessary for success in foreign language classes.
Study every day
Language lemming is cumulative: you cannot put it off until the weekend. Study one or two hours for every class hour if you want a good mark.
Distribute (分配) your study time in 15 to 30 minutes period throughout the day
Study a different task each time: vocabulary now, grammar next, etc. Get an overview during the first half hour: spend 10 minutes reviewing dialog, 10 minutes learning new vocabulary, 10 minutes learning new grammar… So you'll at least have looked at it all. About 80% of your study time should be spend on recitation (背誦) or practice.
Attend and participate (參與) in every class — even if you aren't well prepared
Class time is your best opportunity to practice, Learn the grammar and vocabulary outside of class in order to make full use of the class time. Spend a few minutes "warming up" before each class by speaking or reading the language.
Make yourself comfortable in the classroom
Get to know your classmates, so you'll feel you're among friends. Visit your teacher during office hours to get acquainted (熟悉的) : explain your goals and fears about the course to your teacher.
Learn grammar if you don't already know it
Grammar is the skeleton (骨架) and the basic structure of a language, and you must learn it.
Practice for tests by doing what you'll have to do on the test
If the test will require you to write, then study by writing — including spelling and accents. If you' re asked to listen, practice listening. Ask for practice questions and make up your own test questions. Try to invent changes on patterns and forms. Over learning is also required in tests preparation: study beyond the paints of recognition to mastery.
Develop a good attitude
Have a clear personal reason for taking the class. Set personal goals for what you want to learn. Leave perfectionism at the door; give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them.
64. What does the underlined word "cumulative" in "Paragraph 3" probably mean?
A. process of gaining knowledge or skill by doing and seeing things
B. having to do with comparison
C. having ability to do what is needed
D. increasing in amount by one addition after another
65. A good learner is one who _____ according to the passage.
A. never permits himself to make mistakes
B. can learn something from the mistakes he makes
C. follows the goals that other persons set for themselves
D. can get to know his classmates and doesn't take his teachers' advice

A. Tips on studying a foreign language
B. Advice on how to learn grammar

Every year, many foreign students go to America to study English. Some of them will take part in a homestay and live with an American family. However, others will make a different decision. They will live with friends from their own country. I believe that if a foreign student looks at both possibilities, he will decide to live with an American family. Even though there are one or two disadvantages to the homestay way, there are far more advantages.
In making his decision about how to live in the US, the foreign student is smart to consider one or two disadvantages to live with an American family. First of all, living with people of another language and culture may cause the homesick feeling to increase. Also, the American family could be-come very protective of him. They may ask him where he is going, when he leaves home and when he will return. In spite of these two disadvantages, there is a stronger argument in favor of(贊同)living with Americans.
By living in an American one, the student has a chance to become familiar with American customs and culture. For example, he will learn the importance of family closeness. He can see how the children communicate with their parents and how the parents educate their children. He will not feel like a stranger because the American family will help him adapt to(適應(yīng))a new life. In an American home, he can learn English fast. Family members can help him with his homework. When he speaks English, they can point out his mistakes. In this way, he can learn English naturally.
Although there are some disadvantages to live with an American family, there are more advantages. If the foreign student at first realizes the value of learning about a new culture and improving his English at the same time, he will find studying there a very big experience.
71. According to the passage, which of the following statements is not the advantage of homestay?
A. The student may get familiar with American customs and culture.
B. The family members may be very protective of the student.
C. The student can learn English fast.
D. The family members can help the student with his homework.
72. The main idea of the passage is _______
A. two ways of living in the US
B. getting familiar with American customs and culture
C. improving English with the help of an American family
D. living with an American family
73. Which of the following is mentioned by the writer in the passage.
A. Living with an American family and living in a dormitory.
B. Living with an American family and living with American students in a rented house.
C. Living with friends from their own country and living in a dormitory.
D. Living with an American family and living with friends from their own country.
74. A foreign student living with friends from his own country _________
A. may soon get to know American culture
B. can learn English faster
C. may feel less homesick
D. no longer feels like a stranger in the US
75. When foreign students live in America, which of the following is the one that the writer favors(支持) ?

第二節(jié):
My Opinion on Cheating in Examinations
It is known to us all that some students cheat in examinations at school.
As students, we often take examinations at school, but sometimes we have too many examinations, which are too difficult for us. On the other hand, some of us are lazy and don’t work hard at their lessons. So when taking examinations, they sometimes cheat in order to get better results to please their parents and teachers.
In my opinion, it is wrong to cheat in examinations because it breaks the rules of schools. We students should be honest and try to get good results by studying hard instead of cheating in examinations. What’s more, we should improve our study methods and get well prepared for examinations.
