而在人稱代詞之前,則一定用of 結(jié)構(gòu)。例:
some of them 他們中的一些人 (不能說:*some them)
all of us 我們?nèi)w (不能說:*all us)
each of you 你們每一個
every, no 不能作代詞,前者用every one 來代替,后者用none 來代替。例:
Every one has been checked up. 每一個都檢查核對過了。
If you need a repairman, there's none better than my brother.如果你需要一位修理工,沒有誰比我的弟弟更好的了。
everyone/everybody 之后不接of短語,而every one 之后接of 短語。例:
Every one of us was surprised to hear the news. 我們每一個人聽了這個消息后都很驚奇。
all 或both 后接of短語時,of 常常省去。例:
all (of) my friends 我的所有朋友
both (of) Tom's friends 湯姆的兩個朋友

some 有肯定的意思,因此常用在肯定句里;有時候句子形式上是疑問句,但實際上表達邀請或建議,也用some。例:
There are some books on the bookshelf. 書架上放著書。
Would you have some beer? 喝點啤酒怎樣?
說話人暗示希望聽者給予肯定答復時,也用some。例:
Could you lend me some money ? 能借給我一些錢嗎?
“some +單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞”中的some相當于a(n) 或 a certain; 而“some +復數(shù)可數(shù)名詞”中的some 作“一些”解。例:
Some boy has cut the tree down. 是一個男孩把這樹砍了。
Some boys are singing. 有些男孩在唱歌。
any 有否定、疑問的意思。例:
There are not any electric fans in the hall. 大廳里沒有電扇。
There was not any water in the pool. 塘里沒有水。
Did you find any houses at the foot of the hill? 你發(fā)現(xiàn)山腳下有房子嗎?
I am not sure whether there is any petrol in the tank. 我不能肯定油箱里是否還有油。
any 有強調(diào)性用法,意義象no matter who/what, 用在不可數(shù)名詞或可數(shù)名詞的單數(shù)形式之前。例:
I wish you would tell me something about it; any information is better than none. 我希望你能告訴我關(guān)于這事的一些情況,任何情況都行。
These books are obtainable from any bookseller. 這書在任何書商那里都可以買到。
由some, any構(gòu)成 的復合詞,其用法與some, any的用法類似。

Two hours passed. Another two hours passed. He never turned up. 兩小時過去了,又過去了兩小時,他還是沒有出現(xiàn)。

many a 后接單數(shù)名詞,意思是“許多”,是比較文雅的說法。例:
Many a man has been arrested after the demonstration. 那次示威后很多人被逮捕了。

a couple of, dozens of , hundreds of, the majority of, a minority of, a number of 等后接復數(shù)可數(shù)名詞;而 a large / small amount of, a bit of, a great deal of 后接不可數(shù)名詞;a lot of, lots of, plenty of, a quantity of, quantities of 等則后接可數(shù)或不可數(shù)名詞。
She read a number of books during the summer vocation. 暑假期間她讀了很多書。
A large amount of money has been wasted. 浪費了很多錢。
