1982年，他推出了自己的首張單曲“Runaway”，引起了人們的初步關(guān)注。
主唱Jon Bon Jovi 在Sayreville 高校的時(shí)候遇上了David Bryan(他當(dāng)時(shí)還用原名David Rashbaum)，他們不久便加入了一個(gè)以R&B 為主的樂(lè)團(tuán)Atlantic City Expressway。當(dāng)David Rashbaum 轉(zhuǎn)到紐約去攻讀一所音樂(lè)學(xué)校時(shí)，Jon Bon Jovi 也跟去，他便在一個(gè)和他有親戚關(guān)系所開(kāi)的Power Station 錄音室里做了一些打雜的工作二年，周薪僅五十美元，當(dāng)時(shí)工作得相當(dāng)辛苦，但Jon Bon Jovi 并不以打雜為苦，因?yàn)樗刻煸阡浺羰依?，可以?jiàn)到許多知名的搖滾樂(lè)團(tuán)進(jìn)進(jìn)出出，看到許多心中仰慕的樂(lè)手豐采，狂愛(ài)音樂(lè)的他并且暗自發(fā)誓，有朝一日，他一定要在搖滾樂(lè)界出人頭地。一直到Billy Squier 同意他去錄制Demo 的錄音帶，在完成創(chuàng)作之后，Jon Bon Jovi 便一家一家唱片公司親自遞送。很快的“Runway”這一首歌被紐約長(zhǎng)島電臺(tái)DJ Chip Hobart 相中，主動(dòng)和他聯(lián)系，便在當(dāng)?shù)氐碾娕_(tái)播放而且把他的“Runway”收錄到一張合輯中，雖然Jon Bon Jovi 的終極夢(mèng)想是要出一張專(zhuān)輯，但他還是勉強(qiáng)同意成為合輯中的一員。合輯一推出“Runway”立刻受到各電臺(tái)瘋狂點(diǎn)播，長(zhǎng)島電臺(tái)進(jìn)一步想邀請(qǐng)他做現(xiàn)場(chǎng)演出，但問(wèn)題來(lái)了，他沒(méi)有自己的樂(lè)團(tuán)!於是Jon Bon Jovi 號(hào)召了茱莉亞音樂(lè)學(xué)院畢業(yè)的友人David Rashbaum(后改名為David Bryan)，F(xiàn)ranke & The Knockouts 的鼓手Tico Torres 及Jercy 合唱團(tuán)的貝斯手Alec John Such ，吉他手則央請(qǐng)鄰人客串，后來(lái)有一次表演結(jié)束，在其中一場(chǎng)表演結(jié)束時(shí)的后臺(tái)，Richie Sambora 主動(dòng)找上Jon Bon Jovi ，并宣稱(chēng)自己是最佳吉他手人選;雖然剛開(kāi)始有點(diǎn)心存懷疑，但Jon Bon Jovi 還是被Richie Sambora 的自信和才華所感動(dòng)。
