某人在屋檐下躲雨，看見觀音正撐傘走過。這人說：“觀音菩薩，普度一下眾生吧，帶我一段如何?”觀音說：“我在雨里，你在檐下，而檐下無雨，你不需要我度?！边@人立刻跳出檐下，站在雨中：“現(xiàn)在我也在雨中了，該度我了吧?”觀音說：“你在雨中，我也在雨中，我不被淋，因為有傘;你被雨淋，因為無傘。所以不是我度自己，而是傘度我。你要想度，不必找我，請自找傘去!”說完便走了。第二天，這人遇到了難事，便去寺廟里求觀音。走進廟里，才發(fā)現(xiàn)觀音的像前也有一個人在拜，那個人長得和觀音一模一樣，絲毫不差。這人問：“你是觀音嗎?”那人答道：“我正是觀音?！边@人又問：“那你為何還拜自己?”觀音笑道：“我也遇到了難事，但我知道，求人不如求己?！?/p>

人在碰到困難時，很容易會沮喪。不過無論受到折磨或者痛苦，都不用因此失去信心，因為對你來說原本是很痛苦的事，其實是上天的美妙恩典。
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.
在一場船難中，唯一的生存者隨著潮水，漂流到一座無人島上。
He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him,
他天天激動地祈禱神救他能夠早日離開此處，回到家鄉(xiāng)。
and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.
他還每天注視著海上有否可搭救他的人，但卻是除了汪洋一片，什么也沒有。
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him fromthe elements, and to store his few possessions.
后來，他決定用那片帶他到小島的木頭造一個簡陋的小木屋，以保護他在這險惡的環(huán)境中生存，并且保存他所有剩下的東西。
But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, thesmoke rolling up to the sky.

The worst had happened; everything was lost.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching theisland.

“How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smokesignal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad.

Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground it just may be a smoke signalthat summons the grace of God.
