The subjects of maths and physics have always fascinated me and I knew very early on that I wanted to pursue a career that involves science. As I progressed through school I found that I was much more interested in the application of the theory rather than the theory itself, and this is why I would like to study electronic engineering. I enjoy physics particularity as it can be observed in every aspect of life. From apples falling from trees to lightning, physics explains how the world works, and engineers throughout history have used their knowledge of physics to overcome problems that they face. The Romans built aqueducts to supply their cities with water; William Thomson helped lay the transatlantic telegraph cables that made communication between Europe and the Americas viable.

I also studied Advanced Higher Music last year at school. I am very interested in the use of electronics in music, and I wrote a project on the physics of the electric guitar. This interest prompted me to spend a week of work experience at Wolfson Microelectronics, a local company that engineer integrated circuits for many high profile audio equipment firms. During my stay I was assigned the task of designing and assembling a circuit to investigate the voltage offset and noise created by an operational amplifier. I was also introduced to a silicon microphone, a development which is sure to be significant in the future of electronics, and introduced to all the main stages in the development of a microchip, from design to failure analysis. My forthcoming Advanced Higher Physics investigation will be concerned with the properties of op-amps, the variables that affect these properties, and their applications.

In June, I attended a week-long Headstart course held at the University of Cambridge. We were given a task to assemble and programme a robot to navigate a course, using both dead-reckoning and sensors; I was part of the winning team. The course was thoroughly enjoyable and confirmed that engineering was the subject for me. I have applied to spend my gap year working in the engineering industry, through the Year in Industry scheme. I hope that I will gain invaluable experience of the industry in which I would like to build my career in, and this will no doubt help me understand better how what I learn at university relates to real-world applications.

I play the violin, guitar and bagpipes all to a high standard. I am a first violin in the main school orchestra and the chamber orchestra, lead guitar in the school "Rhythm and Blues" band and a senior member of the pipe band. I hold the rank of Corporal in my school cadet force, and I am a young leader at my Scout troop. Balancing these numerous extra-curricular activities with my academic work has forced me to develop my time management skills. My involvement in both cadets and Scouts has also greatly added to my team working and leadership skills. I was the leader of the team that won the Edinburgh Area Scout camping competition in 2005, and we finished in the top 5 in the country. Currently, I am working towards both my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award and my Queen's Scout award.

I also have a keen interest in computers, assembling my first at the age of twelve, and I am currently teaching myself Mandarin Chinese, something that I would like to continue studying throughout university and a skill that I believe will be very useful in the future, especially in the electronics industry. I keep up to date with the latest scientific news in by reading both Physics Review and New Scientist.

I believe that studying electronic engineering is the best way for me to apply my accumulated knowledge of maths and physics and I look forward to a career that will constantly present me with new challenges.

一、認(rèn)真選課

作為學(xué)生,學(xué)習(xí)自然還是大家要放在首位的事情,而選課和學(xué)習(xí)緊密相連,大家需要了解專業(yè)安排的課程,數(shù)量會(huì)比大家要修的學(xué)分多,所以大家選擇的空間比較大,一定要謹(jǐn)慎。

選修和必修是分開的,基礎(chǔ)課程沒有發(fā)揮的空間,可以從選修入手,除了和專業(yè)相關(guān)的內(nèi)容之外,還可以考慮提升一下自己的能力,當(dāng)然一到兩門其他課程即可,主力還是要放在本專業(yè)上。

二、安排時(shí)間

留學(xué)不僅僅只有學(xué)習(xí),大家還需要安排基礎(chǔ)的社交和與娛樂活動(dòng),有的學(xué)生還會(huì)考慮兼職的事情,而一天的時(shí)間是有限的,需要安排好才不會(huì)影響正常的學(xué)習(xí),當(dāng)然最開始,盡量不要做太多分心的事情。

學(xué)習(xí)一般是時(shí)間的大頭,要保證完成了自己的學(xué)習(xí)任務(wù)之后,再進(jìn)行其他事情的安排,適當(dāng)?shù)恼{(diào)節(jié)是會(huì)對(duì)學(xué)習(xí)產(chǎn)生正面的影響的,而工作是大家要特別注意的內(nèi)容,一定要權(quán)衡好時(shí)間。

三、熟悉環(huán)境

雖然新環(huán)境會(huì)給大家?guī)聿簧傥粗?,但是探索也是?huì)帶來不少的樂趣的,大家在保證自己的安全的情況下,可以考慮去校外多走走看看逛逛,甚至可以去其他城市,旅游是一個(gè)很好的方式。

泰國本身就是一個(gè)旅游的資源非常豐富的國家,大家去了他,千萬不要錯(cuò)過了這里的景色,要知道這是在國內(nèi)看不到的,當(dāng)然需要考慮到本身的情況,尤其是經(jīng)濟(jì)實(shí)力。

四、提升語言

而提升語言是貫穿大家整個(gè)留學(xué)過程的事情,除了學(xué)習(xí)要用到的英語之外,泰語也需要重視,畢竟在生活中,大家交流大都還是會(huì)用泰語進(jìn)行,耳朵一門語言對(duì)大家更有利。

對(duì)本身的實(shí)力差一點(diǎn)的學(xué)生來說,可以利用周末的時(shí)間來進(jìn)行集中地提升,會(huì)有語言學(xué)校,大家學(xué)習(xí)起來的難度會(huì)小很多,而且會(huì)有同學(xué)。

哪些學(xué)生適合去泰國留學(xué)

1、偏科

在國內(nèi)的學(xué)習(xí)中,如果偏科比較嚴(yán)重,在綜合性的統(tǒng)一考核中,難以發(fā)揮出自己的優(yōu)勢(shì),只能夠進(jìn)入到一個(gè)普通的院校中的話,不如考慮專業(yè)化教育更優(yōu)秀的泰國,能夠提高自信心。

這里的課程設(shè)置,給予學(xué)生更高的自主性,大家入學(xué)之后可以根據(jù)個(gè)人規(guī)劃,確認(rèn)要上的課程,必修課的要求是比較少的,選修課會(huì)有更多的興趣分支,即便是偏科也不用擔(dān)心,不選就行。

而且學(xué)校的考核,也不是只參考期末考試的成績,平時(shí)的表現(xiàn)也是非常重視的,因?yàn)闀?huì)安排小組作業(yè)、課題報(bào)告等,還有出勤等,會(huì)占到總分評(píng)比的60%,所以大家還需要重視在平時(shí)的表現(xiàn)。

2、提升英語

隨著各國的聯(lián)系越來越密切,英語的作用,在生活中變得越來越重要,不過大家去英美等國家學(xué)習(xí)英語,成本會(huì)是比較高的,目前在東南亞各國,就可以接受到比較正宗的語言教育,成本還低。

而且大家還可以在學(xué)習(xí)期間,習(xí)得一門小語種——泰語,這樣大家在語言上的優(yōu)勢(shì)會(huì)更加明顯,這是額外的收獲,而基礎(chǔ)的專業(yè)技能提升,則為大家的就業(yè)打下了比較好的基礎(chǔ)。

3、考試落榜

當(dāng)然還有部分學(xué)生是因?yàn)樵趪鴥?nèi)的考試中沒有發(fā)揮好,以獲得的成績單來提交升學(xué)的申請(qǐng),進(jìn)不了自己心儀的院校,這樣不如出國去泰國,還有機(jī)會(huì)進(jìn)入層次更好的院校,而且費(fèi)用也不會(huì)貴很多。

而且高校的門檻也是比較低的,即便大家在落榜之后再進(jìn)行申請(qǐng)的準(zhǔn)備,如果本身的能力基礎(chǔ)比較優(yōu)秀的話,可以無縫對(duì)接到海外的學(xué)習(xí),能力稍差半年的準(zhǔn)備時(shí)間也基本就足夠了。

不過想要進(jìn)入到比較好的高校,大家還是需要進(jìn)行語言考試的準(zhǔn)備,并且出示自己的GPA成績點(diǎn),以及參加目標(biāo)院校的入學(xué)考試,這是基礎(chǔ)的要求。
