One day, I was invited to an important event, and I wanted to wear something special for it. I looked through my suitcase but couldn't find anything to wear. I was lucky to be at the technology conference then, and I had access to 3D printers. So I quickly designed a skirt on my computer, and I loaded the file on the printer. It just printed the pieces overnight. The next morning, I just took all the pieces, assembled themtogether in my hotel room, and this is actually the skirt that I'm wearingright now.
It wasn't the first time that I had printed clothes. For my senior collection at fashion design school, I decided to try and 3D print an entire fashion collection from my home. The problem was that I hardly knew anything about 3D printing, and I had only nine months to figure out how to print five fashionable looks. I always felt most creative when I worked from home. I loved experimenting with new materials, and I always tried to develop new techniques to make the most unique textiles for my fashion projects.
One summer break, I came here to New York to do practice at a fashion house in Chinatown. We worked on two incredible dresses that were 3D printed. They were amazing. But I had a few problems with them. They were made from hard plastics and that's why they broke easily. The models couldn't sit in them, and they even got hurt from the plastics under their arms. So now the main challenge was to find the right material for printing clothes with. I mean the material you feed the printer with.
The breakthrough came when I was introduced to Filaflex, which is a new kind of printing material. It's strong, yet very flexible. And with it, I was able to print the first garment, a red jacket that had the word "freedom" printed into it. And actually, you can easily download this jacket, and change the word to something else, for example, your name or your sweetheart's name. So I think in the future, materials will be better, and they will look and feel like fabrics we know today, like cotton or silk.
24. What does the writer mean by mentioning the skirt she is wearing now?
A. It is not easily breakable. B. It represents the latest style.
C. It came from a 3D printer. D. It was made by a fashion designer.
25. When did the writer start experimenting with 3D printing?
A. When she attended a conference in New York.
B. When she had just graduated from her college.
C. When she was studying at a fashion design school.
D. When she attended a fashion show nine months ago.
26. What was the problem with the material at New York fashion house?
A. It was hard and easy to break. B. It was hard to come by.
C. It was difficult to print. D. It was extremely expensive.
27. What can we know about Filaflex?
A. It is the latest model of a 3D printer. B. It gives fashion designers room for imagination.
C.It is a plastic widely used in 3D printing.D.It marks a breakthrough in printing material.

Drawing the line
In 2006, I decided to stop shopping for a year. I always used to go into stores and just buy things without thinking about it and it bothered me.
I learned from my year of no shopping. But in 2012, I noticed I had replaced this addiction with another-buying useless things on the internet. I would look at pictures of nice things on websites, and before I knew it, I would have wasted an hour looking at and sometimes buying things I didn’t need. So I stopped shopping again. This time, instead of buying the things I wanted, I drew them on the paper.
It was exciting to realize that there is nothing wrong with liking beautiful things. In fact, it’s hard not to like beautiful things in a world that’s filled with them, in a world that’s good at showing you the kind of beautiful thing you most want, and in a world where people try to make you want beautiful things. Why did I feel bad about wanting to shop?
At the same time, I was beginning to learn of fast fashion’s effects on the world. Besides all the money I was spending, I thought of the damage that was being done to the environment, as well as all the hard work that people do to the things I buy. Just by looking at a pretty dress in a window, I somehow felt part of all this.
Drawing the things I want makes me feel less guilty and doesn’t make me want to buy things that I don’t need any longer. But you don’t have to draw the things you want to stop you from buying them. It also works to take some time to stop and think about why you want that shiny new thing.
28. The author stopped shopping again because_______.
A. she had become addicted to buying things online
B. she was bothered that she was spending too much
C. she wasted too much time comparing online goods
D. she spent too much time looking in stores
29. What can we learn from paragraph 3?
A. It’s natural to love things.
B. She should feel guilty of loving beautiful things.
C. If more people stopped shopping, less will be produced.
D. Producers are taking advantage of her desire for beautiful things.
30. In the last paragraph, the author suggests we should________.
A. not feel guilty about shopping
B. talk about the things we want to buy
C. reflect on what causes our desire to buy something
D. think of the harmful effects on the environment before we buy anything
31. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To show how much shopping addiction costs.
B. To explain the damage shopping does to the planet.
C. To share the author’s story of why she stopped shopping.
D. To explain why people should feel guilty about wanting to shop.

Barbara McClintock (1902-1992) was one of the most important scientists of the 20th century. She made important discoveries about genes and chromosomes(染色體).
Barbara McClintock studied science at Cornell University, New York. Barbara was among a small number of undergraduate students(本科生)to receive training in genetics in 1921. Years later, she found that few college students wanted to study genetics.
She decided to study botany, the scientific study of plants, at Cornell University. She completed her undergraduate studies in 1923. McClintock decided to continue her education at Cornell. She completed a master's degree in 1925. Two years later, she finished all her requirements for a doctorate degree.
She stayed at Cornell after she completed her education. She taught students botany. The 1930s were not a good time to be a young scientist in the United States. The country was in the middle of the Great Economic Depression. Millions of Americans were unemployed. Male scientists were offered jobs. But female geneticists were not much in demand.
For years, scientists had been using x-rays to study genetic materials in plants and other organisms. They found that x-rays caused genes to change. Sometimes, the x-rays physically broke the chromosomes. Genetic researchers looked for changes in the organism. Then they used this information to produce a map linking the changes to a single area of the chromosome.
An old friend invited her to spend the summer of 1941 working at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a research center near New York City. Soon McClintock accepted aperpetual position with the laboratory. This gave her the forever freedom to continue her genetic research without having to teach or repeatedly asking for financial aid.
By the1970s, her discoveries had had an effect on everything from genetic engineering to cancer research. She won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1983 for her discovery of the ability of genes to change positions on chromosomes. She was the first American woman to win an unshared Nobel Prize.

One possible version:
Dear friends,
In recent years, many of us spend a lot of time on the Internet with its popularity. As a result, our handwriting is not so good as it was in the past. In order to protect our Chinese characters and write both nicely and neatly, we’d like to offer some suggestions.
We should spend less time online so that we can have more time to read books and newspaper. We’d better form the habit of practicing handwriting and keeping diaries every day. Besides, it is better to recite some national cultural classics .
As the saying goes, “The style is the man.”. Beautiful and neat handwriting is beneficial to us students. So please pay more attention to our handwriting from now on.
Let’s take action now!
