  高考英語模擬題2017山東

  第I卷

  A

Flying can be fun and exciting, no matter what you choose to do. But have you ever thought about what happens on the plane?

Here are some of the most interesting things that happen.

Do planes drop human waste while in flight?

When you flush a toilet on a plane at an altitude of 30,000 feet, there must be a question on your mind: “Is this about to land on a farmer’s house?”

Take it easy. A plane’s toilets cannot be emptied in the sky. The waste is stored in tanks on board and can only be operated by the ground crew.

However, why is news like “blue ice falling out of a plane” reported? Is blue ice human waste? Stories about blue ice are true but rarely happen. The FAA said some lavatory holding tanks have a blue chemical in them. If a tank leaks high in the air, the water freezes once it hits the outside air, and melts before it lands on the ground.

  Is turbulence (顛簸) dangerous?

It’s scary, uncomfortable and spills your drink. But is turbulence something you really need to worry about?

Absolutely not. It’s part of flying, and it isn’t dangerous. Turbulence is caused when two masses of air hit one another at different speeds. Wind, thunderstorms and closeness to mountains are all possible reasons. Despite how dangerous it feels, turbulence won’t crash your plane. Even in extremely rough air, the wing is not going to break off.

  Why are plane windows round?

If you have traveled by plane before, you may have noticed that every plane window has a round design. This isn’t to make the plane look good. It’s for the safety of everyone on board.

As the airplane flies higher and higher, the outside atmospheric pressure gets lower and l ower. In the end, the pressure inside the plane becomes greater than the pressure outside. At this time, windows that can resist pressure are needed.

Square windows can crack. The different pressure inside and outside put stress on the right angles. However, rounded corners help to reduce these stresses by spreading them around the window.

  21. It can be learned from the passage that________.

  A. passengers’ waste falls onto the land direct

  B. blue ice frequently falls out of planes

  C. blue ice from a plane is a great safety threat

  D. passengers’ waste is dealt with on the ground

  22. According to the passage, turbulence________.

  A. is very dangerous B. seldom happens during flying

  C. may crash a plane D. can be caused for many reasons

  23. The plane window has a round design for the purpose of _________.

  A. economy B. security C. beauty D. convenience

  24. The passage is meant to ________.

  A. tell us some interesting facts about flying

  B. inform us of flying safety tips

  C. warn us of the danger of flying

  D. introduce us the design of a plane

Chinese colleges have come up with an unusual way to help freshmen settle in. They turn their gyms into campsites for moms and dads, some of whom have traveled thousands of miles across the country, to say goodbye.

For the past five years, Tianjin University in northern China has provided free accommodation for parents in what it calls "tents of love". Other schools let parents sleep on mats in school gymnasiums.

"Going to college is a life moment and my parents didn’t want to miss that," said Zhang Jinqi, a freshman at Tianjin University majoring in applied chemistry. His parents traveled with him on the 19-hour train journey from Jiangxi province in southern China.

Images of schools gyms packed with parents have been widely shared on Chinese social media prompting a debate on whether China’s only children are too coddled.

Some have voiced criticism of Tianjin University, saying that they think both the parents and the children should be more independent.

Xiong Bingqi, the deputy director of think-tank 21st Century Education Research Institute, thinks the problem is overstated. "It has always been a problem in China that at the start of every school year, colleges are packed with parents who come along to drop off their children and stay with them," he said. "For some families, it’s their way to celebrate the first-ever family member who’s able to go to college," Xiong added. "There’s nothing wrong with sharing the happiness."

Zhang’s father said the decision to escort their son was a no-brainer. He and his wife are among the many "campers" who s leep in the 550 temporary tents set up in the Tianjin University gym.

"My child has lots of luggage and we also want to go travel," said his father Zhang Yonghui. "The hotels nearby are fully booked so I had to sleep in the tents."

Their son also shrugged off the criticism although he said he was looking forward to living on his own for the first time. "Being accompanied by my parents doesn’t mean I’m spoiled."

  25. Zhang Jinqi thought his parents accompanied him to his university mainly because _____.

  A. they wanted to go to travel in Tianjin

  B. they wanted to help him with his luggage

  C. they wanted to witness his important lif e moment

  D. they doubted his independence

  26. Xiong Bingqi thinks going to college with parents’ company ______.

  A. is not such a serious problem as people think

  B. is a chance for freshmen to travel with their parents

  C. is a long-lasting problem to be solved

  D. is not good for the freshmen to build up their independence

  27. The underlined phrase “shrugged off” probably means_________.

  A. was in favor of B. thought nothing of

  C. was ashamed of D. was concerned about

  28. What’s the main idea of the passage?

  A. “Tents of love” is widely criticized.

  B. Chinese only children are too spoiled.

  C. There are different opinions on “tents of love”.

  D. Chinese college education is faced with a big challenge.

  C

Times are a little tough at our house right now. Neither of us makes a lot of money, but years of experience have taught us how to walk between the raindrops and make it from one month to the next with a fair amount of grace. I cook a lot at home, more when we're facing lean times. When I know that I have to keep us fed on not much money, I fall back on my grandmother's recipes. She taught me to cook.

When I was a kid, my twin brother and I spent long summer weeks and Christmas vacations with my mother's parents in the mountains of North Carolina. Rather than go hunting with my grandfather on frozen mornings, I found myself more and more in the kitchen with my grandmother, watching her making a lemon cheese pie with her soft hands.

My great-grandmother died when my grandmother was 11 years old. As the eldest daughter, she was expected to take on all of the housework while attending school. Throughout the Great Depression, she learned how to make a little food go a long way. Vegetables were cheap, so she cooked a lot of them, mostly only using small amounts of meat for seasoning. Roast beef was a twice-a-month luxury, but there was nothing she couldn't do with a chicken, every part of it. Nothing went to waste.

Now I understand that her food was sacred(神圣的). I feel connected to my grandmother and to hundreds of years of family when I'm in my kitchen making country food. In the delicious smells is a long tale of victory over hard times, of conquering starvation—of not just surviving, but finding joy and pleasure in every meal of every day.

From grandmother I learned to take real satisfaction in feeding people. My grandmother would beam with pleasure over a heavily laden table and say:“Do you know what this would cost at the restaurant?”I never knew what restaurant in particular she had in mind, but I knew that the question was totally not fair, because no restaurant anywhere can cook like a grandmother. But now, thanks to her guidance and years of practice, I can.

  29. According to the passage, the author cooks a lot at home because__________.

  A. she wants to try out her grandmother’s recipes

  B. she is quite particular about food

  C. the food in restaurants is unhealthy

  D. she and her husband are embarrassed financially

  30. According to the passage, the author’s grandmother__________.

  A. learnt to cook because of the Great Depression

  B. was good at cooking as well as careful in budgeting

  C. preferred chicken to beef

  D. had to walk a long way to learn cooking in a restaurant

  31. It can be inferred from the passage that the author___________.

  A. liked to compare her grandmother’s food with that in restaurants

  B. learnt something more precious than cooking from her grandmother

  C. hasn’t found the joy in cooking though she can cook like her grandmother

  D. feels connected to her grandmother when making country food in the kitchen

  32. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?

  A. Cook like my grandmother

  B. My grandmother’s sacred food

  C. My grandmother’s recipe

  D. Joy and pleasure in cooking

  D

The city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province is a frequent headline. As a major tourist attraction in China, there were so many tourists during last year’s hottest travel seasons that most of them see only the top of each other’s heads rather than one of the many sights. Hangzhou is also famous for creativity and famous people, being home to Internet giants such as the Alibaba Group and Net Ease.

However, the city has never drawn so much attention as it did in September, when the G20 Summit welcomed heads of the world’s 20 major economies and international orga nizations. For two days, they discussed topics including strengthened policy coordination, building new paths for growth, effective economic and financial governance, as well as strong world trade and investment.

On the night of Sept 4, the city also entertained its guests and audience from around the world with a marvelous party directed by Zhang Yimou. The show, entitled Symphony on West Lake is based on Zhang Yimou’s Impressions of West Lake, an astonishing performance that takes place right on the surface of the water, combining music, dance, and light effects all against the backdrop of nature.

Influential discussions and attractive shows may be enough to draw the world’s attention toward Hangzhou, and for young people around the world, the G20 summit has more to offer. It is a global event that they can take part in as volunteers, to develop their communication skills. It is a multicultural dialogue, affecting these young people’s future career; it motivates and inspires youths of different cultures to exchange ideas; it even helps young Chinese people to learn more about their own culture. And these reasons are what are drawing the notice of young people toward the G20 summit.

  33. What has been discussed in the G20 Summit according to the passage?

  A. New policy of political growth

  B. International cooperation of economic development

  C. Exploration of outer space

  D. Communication of worldwide culture

  34. Which can be inferred from the passage?

  A. Most tourists enjoyed Hangzhou sights last year.

  B. Hangzhou drew the most attention for its beauty.

  C. Hangzhou is a city of entertainment.

  D. The marvelous party was probably held outdoors.

  35. What can be learnt from the last paragraph?

  A. The G20 Summit was only intended to benefit Hangzhou.

  B. The Summit volunteers were Chinese young people.

  C. The Summit will influence the young people a lot.

  D. Volunteers came to the Summit to learn about cultures.

  Dear Mike,

Nice to hear from you. I’d like to share with you my volunteering experience at Huizhou West Lake. Its beautiful scenery and profound cultural background attract millions of visit ors every year, and that is why I usually spend a few hours doing voluntary work there, especially at weekends, and on some special occasions, like festivals and holidays.

Mostly I show the way for those tour ists who are not familiar with the scenic spots. Sometimes I work as a tour guide, introducing the fascination of places to them. I also help maintain order when there are too many tourists, making sure that things can run as smoothly as possible. Besides, picking up the litters left behind is also part of my work.

Joining the volunteer group and offering help to people who need it make me feel fulfilled as well as happy. I really hope that you can come and experience it yourself next winter holiday.

  Looking forward to your reply.

  Best wishes!

  Yours,
